Our collective voices are strong, but mobilizing Marylanders around trash pollution and educating legislators about the costs and solutions is hard work. You can help us in our efforts in several ways:
- Join Us. Our members are stream groups, civic associations, businesses, environmental advocacy organizations, schools, and other groups of concerned citizens who care about removing litter from their streets and plastic from their neighborhood waterways.
- Donate. Support our research, education, and advocacy activities by donating online here. You can also send a check payable to Trash Free Maryland to 3002 Laurel Avenue, Cheverly, MD 20785. We are a 501(c)3 charitable organization, and your donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowable by law. Your contributions go directly to support our efforts to reduce trash pollution around the state.
- Volunteer. Along with our members' campaign activities, we can always use help with research, writing, and administrative projects.
For more information about any of these opportunities, email TFMD Executive Director Julie Lawson at julie@trashfreemaryland.org.
Internships
Trash Free Maryland is currently seeking an Intern to support its mission of reducing litter in Maryland and the Anacostia watershed, and advocating for policies and legislation that support a trash-free state!
The internship would suit a student with an interest in environmental science, green business, ecology, public policy, or a related field. The intern’s duties include: strengthening Trash Free Maryland’s web presence, including maintaining social media accounts and possibly drafting blog posts; assisting the Executive Director to redesign the organization’s website, including strategizing on ways of maximizing internet-based advocacy efforts; assisting with management of contact database, including supporters, partners, legislators, and others; potentially participating in ongoing advocacy campaigns in the state of Maryland to ban polystyrene food service containers, expand the availability of recycling services, and reduce the use of disposable shopping bags; and providing administrative support to the Executive Director.
The ideal candidate will have excellent web design, social media, and communication skills, a great work ethic, a creative mind, and a personal commitment to reducing trash pollution in Maryland and the Anacostia watershed.
Trash Free Maryland offers unpaid internships; we are interested in working with the right candidate and his or her university to determine how academic credit for the internship opportunity might be established. Internships are available for an academic semester or a full year, with preference for candidates who can commit to a full year and are interested in becoming directly involved in lobbying work in the spring term.
Only short-listed candidates will be contacted; the position will remain open until filled. All applicants for internships must possess work authorization that does not require employer sponsorship.
To apply, email cover letter, resume, and a writing sample to Julie.
